Time to sign up for the  2016 Tai Chi & Kung Fu Tournament at the

Montreal Yang Cheng Fu Tai Chi Center/Roxboro Tai Chi Kung Fu Center

 Competition Date:                 Saturday, May 28, 2016

Registration Deadline:           Saturday , May 7, 2016

Spectators are Welcome:       Entrance is $2/person  or $5 per family / fundraising event

Canteen:  Sandwichs and baked items will be available between 1130 and 1pm / fundraising event.

Parking:   Parking is encouraged at the train station (one minute walk to center)

  • please bring change or small bills if planning on supporting the canteen as we often run out of change.


a) Individual  

Hand Form  

Chapter 1, 2 or 3 of the 103 long form   (see requirements below)

Sword Form – Traditional Yang Family Sword Form (67 postures)

Time limit:  3-4 minutes

Saber Form – Traditional Yang Family Saber Form (13 postures)

Time Limit: 1-2 minutes


b) Group event –  Hand Form only, same requirements as per individual

(minimum 2 persons per group)


Requirements for hand form

For NOVICE taiji enthusiasts (less than 3 years practice who have not yet completed the 103 form)

You may choose one of the following chapters of the long (103) form:

1st chapter:  Time limit: 2-3 minutes.

2nd chapter:  Time limit: 4-6 minutes.

Instructor Special – Some instructors have made up a session for you and your group.

For EXPERIENCED practitioners: 

You may choose one of the chapters of the long form 103):

Chapter 1: time limit 2-3 minutes

Chapter 2: time limit 4-6 minutes

Chapter 3: time limit 6-8 minutes 

You are not sure you would like to participate in the tournament? Would you like some support and encouragement?  Ask your teacher or any member of the center’s competition team for information and advice. This tournament is about challenging yourself and having a little fun.

Also to assist you we will hold 6 optional practices at the Center. They are not mandatory and are put into place to help your comfort level and to spend a little time with other Tai Chi participants.

Friday, April 15, 22, 29 and May 20, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. – Guided practice (optional)

Friday, May 6 and 13,  2015 from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm – Practice in front of judges (optional)


Registration fees for the tournament event:   $30 for 1st event, 10 $ any additional event.

Event T-shirts are available for $25 to participants – they may be worn for the event and in tai chi and kung fu class sessions throughout the year.

Remember, the deadline for the registration is Friday, May 7, 2016.  Registration  available at the front desk or on the website www.taichimontreal.com.
